About
We are partnering with our trusted local experts to bring you a tour that is 100% "Donkey Sunrise Style". You’ll be riding alongside Tim and likely seeing some familiar faces of people that have already ridden and stayed with us in Colombia. This tour, more than others, is a reunion of the Donkey Sunrise family. Expect like-minded people, good vibes, and that specific sense of adventure you know from our home in Valle del Cauca.
The guide(s): Led by a local legend and certified instructor, with Tim providing the hosting and bad jokes.
Base camp: A charming hub just 45 minutes north of Lisbon
Duration: 1 Day Training + 2 days off-road touring
For who: Whether you are a Donkey alumnus or new to the family, this is for you!
Type of tour: A "loop" format. We return to our home base every night. So no packing and unpacking, just fun during the day and the comfort of a solid home base.
What we'll see: Golden trails winding through ancient cork forests and the stunning heights of the mountains.
This is what we're going to do!
Day 0: Welcome to Portugal!
Day of arrival! We all gather at our home base, 45 mins north of Lisbon. At Donkey Sunrise, we believe the best friendships are forged at the table. We kick things off with a Welcome Dinner, ensuring you'll experience the Portuguese gastronomy right away! Detailed arrival instructions will be provided upon booking.
Day 1: Building the Foundation
Today is about confidence. We spend the day with our lead local instructor mastering the essentials: understanding traction, body positioning, emergency stops, hill climbing and the art of descending. We adapt the difficulty to your level. Whether you are new to dirt or just brushing up, you’ll end the day a better rider.
We return to base for dinner together and a well-earned rest.
Day 2: Forest & cork trees
Time to put those new skills to work! We ride East, hitting the dirt within the first 10km. Expect deep forests and zig-zagging golden trails lined with endless cork trees. Keep your eyes peeled for free-roaming cows, sheep, and the famous Iberian pigs. ;-) We stop in a traditional village known as a mecca for local off-roaders. In the afternoon, the tracks get slightly spicier to test your progress (don't worry, you’ll be ready!).
In the evening, we go back to base camp to relax with the group.
Day 3: Mountains & views
On our final day, we dial up the adventure. This is the perfect opportunity to solidify your new skills on a scenic route. Depending on the weather and the group’s energy, we'll choose one of three epic tracks:
The rocky mountain passes.
The deep forests to the North.
The scenic peaks towards the coast.
Afterwards, we ride back to base camp where the tour concludes.
You can book an extra night if you want to stay, or use the shower facilities if you’re heading straight to the airport.
